hello guys
i have a strange problem and i need a second opinion before i rip the tank out again and burn it
i have opened the tank up replaced the return line resealed, worked great until i ran out of fuel with 1/8th tank showing (in between 1/4 and empty the light didn't even come on)
i replaced the pump on easter Saturday and went for a spin. and the strange issue arose.
the motor cuts out on right hand corners only, go around the corner at normal speed and straighten it back up and she dies.
swirl pot looks and works as per normal the return line is on and tight. brand new pump, branded GOSS with new filters on the pump and in line filter.
very strange its got me stuffed and I'm a mechanic lol. just after some experiences and how you fixed it....

very strange, im having the same issue with mine this same weekend. all i could think of is that the return line may be blocked or possibly your fuel pressure regulator is leaking through the vacuum line and going into the throttle body thus not having any fuel going back to you swirl pot. Also how did you open your fuel tank up and replace the hose, did u have to cut and weld it or some other way? cheers
check for a dint in your tank happened with my old vs
i have heard of two things causing this,
1st was a ball in the tank (cant remember if it was ping pong or golf ball) that was put there as a joke- was in a vp SS
2nd was fuel pump wire earth not connecting properly,- this could also explain you gauge reading wrong.
i would check your wires first
i cut and welded it my self
the tank was full of water when i did it and also let sit for a few hours. IF ANYONE IS GOING TO DO IT, JUST REMEMBER ITS THE FUMES THATS FLAMABOL. IF IN DOUBT LEAVE IT TO THE PROS
fixed.
dodgy brand new pump.
will be gettig a refund and going genuwine
put my old pump back in and its all good, sorta, its no longer cutting out but i have a delayed start (orignal reasion for replacement) releif valve in pump stuffed.....
Why would a dodgy fuel pump cut out only on right hand corners?.....
Why go to all the trouble of opening and re-welding a fuel tank just to reseal the return line? My return line broke when replacing the fuel pump and all i did was run a short hose from the return on the fuel pump down towards the base of the tank. Took about 2 minutes and works great.
Never be afraid to try new things; remember amateurs build the ark while professionals build the Titanic.
because it was missing all together, and i wanted it done correctly, also at the time i didn't care because i thought i was getting a tank but it hasn't shown up.
i also wanted to use the correct type of hose and i tried putting it on with out cutting it but it was at the wrong angle.
this is the second pump in 2 different cars that has done it to. different brand pumps as well.
the last pump was in a Hyundai lantra and it did it under load and right hand corners
my pump did it also under load and on rh corners only, i had a fuel gauge hooked up on both cars.
i have since put the original pump in and i have lower level of fuel and its all good. noisy but it will do until Monday. also my fuel gauge now works again, strange.
When you say "i had a fuel gauge hooked up on both cars. ", do you mean a fuel pressure gauge?(sound stupid I know but maybe you had a pr gauge to monitor fuel pressure)
Even when worn, fuel pumps should not be overly noisy as it's usually the brushes that wear/stick from what I've seen. No water in the fuel? Fuel surge - you say it happens after you do a RH turn and straighten (isn't the swirl pot on LH side of tank?) so maybe you do the RH turn, fuel surges to LH side of tank where swirl pot is, then you straighten and fuel rushes out/over swirl pot back to normal level. Good Luck.
Ive seen dodgey wiring cause in intermittent fuel pump problem. The vehicle was randomly cutting out over bumps and occasionally around corners,we replaced the pump and was still doing it.We returned that pump, got another one, installed it and was still happening. We looked at the wiring and something had hit the wire and squashed it a bit and the actual wires were broken under the wires sheath ,so it wasnt visible. It was loosing contact every now and then.We cut and rejoined the wire and no more problem. We took a perfectly good pump back for nothing though.Grr. Maybe get under the car with it idling and wiggle/move the fuel pump wiring around and see if the pump stops at all.
i did all that. i did a lot i diagnostic's and a faulty pump was the last on the list. i had 1/2 to 3/4 tank and it was cutting out going right also cutting out under full load, accelerating hard so the swirll pot issues was void.
i also pulled the tank out again, complete flush again and made sure the pot and lines were in good condition, which they were.
i had the car jacked up on the Rh side and it started to cut out, miss and fart etc. bashed the tank where the pump sits and she came good. riped the new pump out and fitted the old one, and no problem....im swapping it for a genuine pump today so no biggie
ohh and yes i had a fuel pressure gauge hooked up, and after it cut out it made weird noises from the tank
