i have a unlicensed 96 Vs acclaim with IRS a whole rear end ! and i have a 95 VS commodore with a live axle in it ! is there anyway possible that i can switch them around ? with them fitting in one another !
PLEASE HELP ME OUT !!! =]
Nah mate the whole back of the car is different. Anything is possible but it's a engineering/welding job. Not a backyard effort
whats so different about the two ? mines a 95 series 2 commadore ex cop car is there any chance that it did actually come with IRS but cops took it out ?
They are two completely different setups, you just cant take one out and put in the other, its a hell of a lot more complicated than that. You would need to cut the rear end off the live axle body and weld on a IRS rear end.As explained above,an engineering job,not something for most backyarders.Get under the two cars and have a good look at them both.Check out the differences.
i thought thgat all vs commodores r IRS ?
VS came with IRS or solid rear end(live axle). My VS has the solid rear end.
Why bother???
because my diffs ****ed leaking bad
diff = $50-100
irs conversion $1,000's
Your choice buddy, i know which one's i would choose![]()

correct me if I`m wrong but all upper tiers had IRS from berlina/SS up.
executive pov pack had live axle
S pac live with IRS option??
equipe optional??
BT1 either choice of the two differers from respected police dept/state.
SS IRS standard
Berlina IRS standard.
acclaim and so on were IRS.
VT was the first model to have IRS (and ABS) standard across the range.
Only the Stato's, Calais, SS had it standard (and the Acclaims) other than that everything was live axel unless optioned. I don't think Berlina's had IRS
My old VR berlina had IRS, yet I hated it mainly because of the Camber looked like the wheels were falling off, my VS has live axle and I prefer it yeah it is not as smooth but I am not always up for tires or stupid alignment kits.
personally i like my independent VR rear end,
i dont like the look of the lowered IRS, and i dont really want the tyre wear that goes with it.
independent is irs (independent rear suspention) so you do get the tyre wear lol
I say a VL online recently that had been converted to nissan IRS off a skyline or similar. It was being sold fairly cheaply minus engine and trans. It certainly is do-able, If you have the money to spend on it.
Don't get me wrong Sam, I know IRS is definately a better handling car, especially comparing the difference of throwing a solid rear and an IRS car into a corner. IRS shits on solid rears, my comment was merely saying that it's completely not worth transferring different rear suspension set ups, thanks to the different chassis and stuff. If the guy wants an IRS car badly, might as well go and buy one with IRS, not waste time and money putting IRS into a Live Axle chassis and getting it engineered.
Camber correction kit solves all problems mate.
Vs berlinas are not standard irs.
