Hey guys.
Going to pick up an lsd tonight
Just wondering if there are tell tale signs they are rooted out of the car.
I'm asking this as iv'e got 2 to choose from.
Thanks guy Deneo.
If they are still assembled in the housing with axles, take a couple of bars and a mate. Position bars in between wheel studs.Get your mate to hold his axle still while you turn yours and see what sort of resistance you get. Should be as good an indication as any as to whether its any good or not. If they are just the hemispheres, apart from dismantling you cant tell visually apart from seeing if the cones have 'bottomed out' on the ends of the carrier.

Your talkin to me all wrong, it's the wrong tone. Do it again and I'll stab you in the face with a soldering iron.
to test it properly you need a torque wrench and a bench vise and a couple old axles that you can cut down. then mount one short axle in the vice, fit LSD on the stub shaft, fit other shortened shaft (with hex fitting on top) into top of LSD and then use a torque wrench and socket to calculate how much pressure it takes to make the LSD slip. most diff shops are set-up for this. bit of a hassle for a one off job.
best thing is to test it whilst still in the axle/on the car
