Help m30 gearbox probs

Help my gearbox in my 1996 vr acclaim auto is playn up on me. It's an electrical fault as I've just replaced the gasket & filter & there were no metal shavings , all clear . Wots happining is it refuses to shift 1st,2nd,3rd & if allready in 3rd or 4th it refuses to kick down when I plant my foot. However it will kick dwn when say u approach an intersection but wotever gear it selects it will not change up from there . Also when sitting in neutral or park & I select either drive or reverse bangs into that gear rather harsh.

Try swapping the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) for a known good one.When this sensor wears out it can stuff up the shifts and cause the box to play up as the auto transmission uses the signal from the TPS to shift properly.
