removing heater fan

hey guys is it possible to remove the fan from the heater unit or does this job require the entire big black heater unit to be removed which from what I can see and read on this forum the whole dash needs to come off, plus regassing of aircon. I just cant see at the moment how the fan comes out. Also wrecking VS sedan with a good interior if anyone is after some parts
