VR ute, 5 speed manual, cover plate problem!!!!

Can someone please tell me if the back of the gearbox where the gearshift is (the rectangle plate) is supposed to be sitting higher than the actual tunnel? ( inside the car) I cant get the cover plate to sit flat onto the tunnel because it seems to be hitting on the gearbox
This is how I bought it and it has been converted from column auto to manual.
Any help much appreciated

yer mate it dose mines like that at the moment there are console u can buy off ebay for $160 for a manual vs vr
