My series 1 VS has ALWAYS used engine oil but just lately it's become a little worse. I usually have to top up close to 2 litres every 5 or 6,000k's Strange thing is it doesn't blow any smoke so I don't know where the oil is going. I know series 1 VS's have always had a habit of using oil because Holden tried to use softer seals to help fuel ecomomy but at a cost of oil consumption. The car now has 365,000 k's and still runs perfect except for the oil issue. Do i need the seals replaced or just live with it?
its not doing too bad considering the kilometres on the clock. do you drive it pretty conservatively or not? it might be worth while to change the valve stem seals maybe?
Vr's Were Bad For Valve Stem Seals I Bought A 97 Vs Statesman Superchargedv6 And Had It For Six Months And It Had 92.000k's And It Used 1.5lt Oil In 5,000k's And Was Faultless I Got Sick Of It So Got The Ss And It Has Not Used Any Oil Between Changes In 2 1/2 Years
365,000 km's !!!!!! Original Engine ?
Does it still have piston rings ?
lmao

What oil do you use? Thicker oil would be more well suited for a worn engine, I think 20w50 is what's reccomended for VS but thinker oil woudn't hurt.
Yes 20w 5o Is The Right Grade Oil And Thicker Oil Does't Hurt Either I Use Penrite
I've always used Castrol GTX2. Except I tried Valvoline XLD premium about four months ago. Seemed to use only slightly more oil with XLD. Last weekend I went back to GTX2. I've always changed the oil at worst 10,000k intervals. Usually around 7 or 8000. I figure whats the point in toping it up when I'm just gonna change it anyway. I wouldn't say it was a "worn" engine either. Apart from using extra oil it still runs perfect.
