vs ute v8 auto gear box issue

hi all, after selling my Vy SS sedan due to house commitments ive been looking for a ute, seen a fairly cheap one for sale needs bit work here their nothing major i dont think. one thing i noticed when i took it for test drive was that the gear selector was very tight to select gears i.e from park to reverse or reverse to drive? what do you guys think. the chap has a non standard gear knob on their but i wouldnt have thought that to be the issue. he says apprently that the gearbox was changed not long ago? any thoughts??

sorry im not too clued onto these auto boxs or how they should be. ive only had one vs ute auto and that was fine really easy to put into any gear.

also when slowing down in the car it was quiet heavy going into 1st just first though? again my old vs ute never drove like that. it wasnt that bad just i thought it was bit odd seen as the box was replaced??
