ok i need some help a mates vs died and he wants to put a 3800 in it is there any benifits or losses. also what would need to be changed ie trans, diff, ?????

Will de-value the car and i wouldnt think it is legal, isnt there a law that says you cant fit older engines in to newer cars..

I think the emissions side of things would stop it from being legal.(Older model engine in newer model car).

Is it even legal to replace a newer technology engine in a car with an older technology engine?
There are almost as many Ecotec's out there for sale now as there are Buick's, and at comparable prices.
Plus, replacing with the same type(Ecotec), everything will be the same when it comes to hooking everything up.

ecotec = newer motor = more power
vs = newer car = more "extras" standard = heavier

Or he would just be better off putting an Ecotec in. I can't think of any major downsides, I can't think of any major upsides either.
