synthetic or semi or wat? also dont really want to spend too much, what have yous found to work well.
A good quality 20w-50 oil is recommended for the V6 engines.I use penrite HPR 30 which is semi-synthetic oil and is a 20w-60 which will stay a bit thicker than the 20w-50 stuff when hot.I change the oil and the filter every 5000 km.
lose any economy with the thicker stuff? whats that worth for how may litres? cheers
castrol gtx2 20w 50
I get great economy.I only use 98 octane fuel and get around 6 -8 litres /100km highway, and around 10-11 litres/100km around town.I dont drive slowly either.A 5 litre bottle of HPR 30 is around $35.About $7 for a filter.I live in the middle of no where though so its probably cheaper near the cities.
i always use penrite HPR 30 costs about $45 for 5 litres
thats what it always costs round here, sure its still $42 at supercrap
I get it at Auto barn or Auto one I dont even remember the name of the shop,ha ha.But its one of these anyway.
Penrite HPR30 Engine Oil - 20W-60, 5 Litre - Supercheap Auto $35.99 5 litres
http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/onl...d=1383#details $12.49 a litre
Supercrap has it cheaper!!
man ive been paying around $45 for it for as long as i can remember! supercheap is a good hour drive from me though so prob still works out the same cost buying local
i use penrite HPR 15 semi synthetic 15W60. seems to last longer then castrol gtx2. i get about 550 to a tank of fuel and thats a mix of highway and city driving. i pay $35 for 5 litres at supercheap
oh btw my car is a buick and has 350k km
go HPR 30 .. if it had a few less k's i'd say go with the HPR 15 .. but with the higher k's go the 30

what do you guys recommend for a reo engine with 7000 km's?
fuel economy is average for a VS... mine gets the same, thing is tho, i get the same figure using 98, and 91 octane!!!!!
only benefit i get from 98 is a smoother idle!
95 i get a bit better acceleration, a bit smoother idle and 20-50kms a tank more... which works out to be around 20c/100km than 91 octane provided it's 9c/L more expensive.
98 is a waste of money unless specifically tuned for it
i average 12L/100km round town with my 5ltr on 95ron with foamy tune (country town) cant complain about that
My car runs like crap on 91 octane fuel compared to when I run 98 octane.I get worse fuel economy too.The engine management can take advantage of higher octane fuel because it constantly advances the ignition timing until knock or pre detonation occurs, which is detected by the knock sensors,The more advanced the timing is (to a point) the more efficiently the engine runs which means more power and better economy. And the higher the octane rating of the fuel is, the more ignition advance can be used before knock occurs.
