Default How much is this going to cost???

I had to tow my dads car tonight when i got home i noticed this...

Good thing is dads gonna pay for it bad thing is i don't know how much its gonna cost.

Does anyone know how much a mechanic will charge?

Or if its not too big a job is it possible to fix myself and just pay for part?

All help will be greatly appreciated.

Bent panhard rod...also looks like the bolt attaching it to the diff housing is snapped....2nd hand rod from wreckers is about $20 and you could drill the busted bolt out. However I'd guess there is hidden damage from whatever caused the rod to bend unless you put the tow-rope around it???

Lucky it didnt puncture the fuel tank as well.Should have put the tow rope around the whole diff housing instead..You know now for next time anyway.

Hopefully it hasnt bent the mount where the panhard rod mounts to the body. Otherwise you should be able to get out of it fairly cheap.Wreckers would be the best bet.

i reckon youll need to replace the diff man, the thread where the panhard rod bolts to is clearly bent.
you could maybe heat it up and bend it back into place but it might end up breaking on ya in the future.
should have tied the rope around the diff housing..

Have you got an Oxy set near by? :

Just heat the ****er up and bend it straight
Where it bolts to the diff is ment to be on a bit of an angle, but probly not that much, just unbolt it off the car end, and bend it back with the rod itself

Probly not the best idea, but I'd give it a go

if u arnt keen on useing an oxy a diff from a wreckers is around $200 and thay should throw in the panhard rod with it and allow 2 hours labour cost ($50hr)to fit it if ur not handy with the spanners also if ur going to drive/move it anywhere check gaurd to tyre clearance first as that bar locates diff left/right

OK - so I get it now......accidently bent the old panhard rod helping the old man and now the old man pays for a new adjustable panhard rod......methinks you should be in politics.

Shit is this another troll thread?

Or did you seriously wrap a tow rope around your panhard rod?

This has to be in the top ten most retarded things any member here has ever done....

    The moto of this story:

Dont use any other part of your car to tow anything, unless you have at least have Stocky 550kg weighed Tow bar, (even this aint the recommended)

Ebay has them for like $20-$50, which is considerably different to an adjustable Panhard Rod and Fuel Tank (the fuel tank doesnt look too happy after the Rod kissed it)

Huh? The standard towbar is rated at 1200kgs.

Some people get a lot out of telling others what not to do or how bad it is is without actually offering any help.....grow up.

I can see this as being a mistake by someone not knowing a hell of a lot about cars.

To the OP, good job in getting your old man to pay for an upgrade.

The moral of this story is if you aren't sure, ask, if there is no one to ask, use a bit of common sense and look at what "might" happen if you do something.

It looks like it has made the sway bar move in the rubbers attaching it to the diff housing. It might be a good idea to check the link pins for damage. How did you straighten the pan hard rod mound on the diff as it looked to be bent? I'd also be hitting Dad up for a new fuel tank.

You can tell that from the photo's can you..? Must have some x-ray vision going on or something...
The diff mount is supposed to be on an angle, it didn't look too badly bent out of shape to me.

Do you really think that needs a new tank, from those photo's? Or are you just hanging shit on the O/P like everybody else in this thread..?

O/P - Flip the Pan hard rod around like the guys are saying and you'll be right.
