hi guys, this is my 1st post so plz be gentle, i have just re registered my car after being out of rego for over 6 mnths. did major service and fixd any obvious mech faults before getting it back on the road. but even after changing coil, leads, plugs, and oil n filters. engine is still running rough almost to the point of stalling, if i sometimes put it in PARK thn try to go to DRIVE will caus car to stall, car idles at roughly 900rpm, but fluctuates all the way down to 500rpm. i dont know much bout cars, but i really love my vr and hav spent some real money on it so any help would be greatly appreciated
thanx
mike.
the fuel pump could be failing give the tank a good thumping with the car idleing and see if there is any change.
maybe even stale fuel
^^^^does the exhaust smell odd?
If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?
Agree with shane271184. Drain the fuel from the tank and replace with fresh fuel before you do anything else. In six months the fuel would definitely have gone off.
A similar thing happened to ours. Turned out to be badly fouled spark plug from valve stem seal oil leak. So I'd suggest checking your plugs - start with #6, as this is I'm told the first most likely to go.
could be a vaccum leak,
Fuel should easily last more than 6 months unless it's contaminated with water or rust from the tank. I'd be checking the IAC valve, if you give it and the throttle body a good clean it may fix the problem. Just ensure you don't soak any electrical parts in carby cleaner.
Other than that change the fuel filter and check the fuel pressure.
