So I get off my P's in few a months and I need two more cylinders. I also like driving a manual and carrying stuff and the vs utes take my fancy. I've been looking on carsales, ebay etc, and there seems to be a few reasonable examples between $5-10k. Mostly closer to 10k though. Would it be reasonable to expect to pay $7.5k for a fairly straight fairly stock example with maybe 200000km on it?
It seems to be a bit hard to find one though that some clown hasn't got a hold of and lowered in and put a body kit on and other silly shit. Are there any sort of issues they are known to have? I don't imagine there'd be anything too seriously wrong with them.
The vs utes never came with irs did they? I'd hate to have a ute with irs.
Cheers
Four commodores and counting.
no vs utes came with irs, 7.5k should get you a decent one.
Just make sure its been looked after, only things i can think of with the vs 5.0 at the moment are there seem to be a lot of people posting with problems with hall effect sensors, ignition module and coil problems, must just all be getting to that age so ask if any of them have been changed recently, if the coil is still on the back of the block out of sight it more than likely has not been changed, around $70 for new one. Hall effect sensors are the 5ltr's version of the V6 crank angle sensor, if this fails its time for a new dizzy looking about $300 for this, ignition module is the easiest to change but they can be expensive $300-$400 for a new one. Thats if you fit them your self.![]()
Paid $6000 for mine she's an auto though with 200 000km on the odo. Has been lowered though with 18 inch mags plus put on gas. Havent had any problems really except for the speedo dying and the damn electric windows other than that she's perfect.
Yeha VS utes came with IRS, keep your eyes open for one from an olderly person or something with full service history so you know it hasent been thrashed. if i see one i will PM you
