Gday Holden lovers.Ive got a weird one in the VS.Jumped in today and first time i hit the brakes i get stuff all response to stop.Have to press the brake pedal hard, virtually through the floor to stop. Not good. When pressed and held down brake pedal starts hissing WTF.Dont know whats going on and is bloody dangerous to drive like that. What the hell could this be? Thanks.
sounds like the brake booster cylinder is leaking or gone maybe?
Its most likely a leaking brake booster. The engine supplies vacuum to the booster and if its leaking the engine will suck air through the booster into the engine, which is the hiss you can hear.Has the engine been running differently at all? Especially at idle. Also the hard brake pedal is another sign the booster is not working because of no vacuum.
check the vacuum line going to the booster, will prob be loose of split.
Either the booster is busted internally of the hose, 95% the booster I would say
Yeah probably a booster diaphram or a grommet, either way cheap enough to fix.

Booster diaphram is gone.
When you hit the brakes, the atmospheric valve opens and creates a big vacuum leak through the filter on the pedal side (under the dash).

those damned snakes!!!
You fellas are a great help as always.Checked the vaccum hose and one way valve and they were ok.Went to the wreckers and got a booster for $50 and it done the job just nicely. My brake pedal feels normal again.Looks like the diaphragm was stuffed.Yes and it was idling rough as well with the old booster. But good now. Thanks for the friendly advice once again. You know they reckon snake tastes similar to chicken lmao.
