another option if you dont mind butchering the tracks, i purchased a cheap credit-card type remote for my headunit, soldered ribbon wire on the remote to the coresponding buttons and aimed the IR led to the headunit, will see if i can get you a pic tomora. long way round but its cheap.

I haven't bothered with it, mine are missing a couple of the buttons so when I get a chance I'll be removing the controls

won't work, the wiring isn't there to support them on either the clockspring or the radio itself....

Most headunits use a simple resistance ladder for their steering wheel controlls. If you are handy with a soldering iron, you should be able to figure the rest out yourself

the radio buttons use the horn wires to send low voltage down the line, not enough to sound the horn but enough to register each press. from my knowledge there isnt a difference in the radio, it'll be more the bcm.

wiring plug on the back of calais/statesman/caprice radio is different to that of a lower spec VR/VS (the plug is longer and has more pins in it than a low spec one)

I know the VT/VX clockspring is different for cars with steering wheel controls, not sure if it's the same case for VR/VS

....and this signal goes to a control unit that hangs under the BCM.
