what sensor would make your car lose heaps of power on warn days
thanks
hsv engine? knock sensor will retard the timing 10 degrees if it senses a knock dont think it would happen just on warm days though
Engine knock (or pre detenation or pinging) occurs when the fuel octane rating is too low or the ignition timing is to advanced. The higher the fuel octane rating is,the more timing advance can be used which means more economy and more power and cleaner emissions. These engines ECU's can advance the ignition timing to suit a higher octane fuel.(higher octane fuel can handle more timing advance before detonation occurs). The ECU continually advances the ignition timing until knock is detected then it retards the timing until knock is not detected ,then it advances it again, this process is continuously repeated as the engine runs.
Try doing an error check to see if any error codes are logged, the ECU will log error codes if any sensors are stuffed or if their readings are out of range, heres a link that shows how to do this test.---Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)---
The V8 HSV memcal/chip was designed to operate with a knock sensor and will not operate without one. HSV added the knock sensor as an added safety option to protect the V8 engine. The knock sensor senses engine pre ignition (pinging) due to excessive temperatures, poor fuel or high load and in turn retards ignition to safeguard the engine. Without the knock sensor the engine light will come on and the computer will go into "limp home" mode
I's say it is not getting enough fuel or your coil/ignision is on the way out.
The ignision module is possibly on the way out.

Yeah,it helps him out about as much as your answers.Thats why it was quoted to you.And thats why I told him to do the error check.Jeez, thanks for the fuel rating lesson "again" brett but how does that answer what sensor could cause the car to loose power..??
my answer actually answered the question he asked.. "what sensor can cause the engine to loose power"
He didnt ask for a fuel ratings lesson again..
You have to comment on every single thread most the time with the same answers that have already been given or contradict someone all the time!
anyway, i think 88greenVN is on the money with his answer.
I just explained what the knock sensor does and the role it plays, big deal,it backed up what you said about how it can change the engine timing etc.And yes if the engine is hot or in overheat condition the ECU will cut back the ignition timing too as more heat causes knock to occur sooner than normal..Most people like to find out stuff about their car and how things work.Youve had a go at me for absolutely nothing here, and you should grow up a bit.Another thing is if the same old questions keep coming up about the same common problems commodores have, they get the same old answers, the answers dont change. So of course things are going to be said over and over,a blind man can see that.
