Default VR auto over-revving when cold

    Hi,

I don't really know a lot about cars, but I have recently bought a VR executive wagon, and want to do some work on it myself, and have found some helpful tips here so far.

I wanted to get advice on a problem I'm having when the engine is cold, the car often revs much higher than normal before changing gear (auto) if changing at all.
often I have to take my foot off the accelerator and back on again to get it to change gear. it seems to be fine once the car has warmed up a bit. When idling, the car drops from about 900rpm to around 500rpm if idling for more than 30 seconds, but i'm not sure if that is normal or not for commodores.

also, the battery light comes on, but not until I have been driving for about 15 mins, then proceeds to come on and off slowly when the car is changing gear.

any advice on this would be appreciated

on a side note, the car came with a third party immobiliser, once I started using that, the security LED in the front panel stopped lighting up all together, is this because the 3rd party one is in use, or could I have just broken it when installing my stereo? I was going to use the tutorial on this site to check my computer for faults, and I need that light to work for it!

Hi,try doing an error check---Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)---And also maybe give the transmission a service, which you can do yourself. You just buy a filter and new pan gasket for around $25(also comes with new filter seal) and a 5lt bottle of dexron 111 type fluid.Remove the pan, this also drains the fluid so be careful, remove the old filter and its seal, install the new seal and filter, clean the pan magnet, reinstall the pan with the new pan gasket and its done.
