G'day , newfag here.
Been browsing the forums for a year now, thought I'd sign up now I'm in a sh!t.
I have a decent sense of names and numbers for parts 'n' what not so feel free
to chuck ideas across in any aspect, I'm no mechanic , but common sense is definately in tact.
Long story short -
Car is fully operational , rock up to mates place , 1hr later go to reverse
out of his driveway , car sits there and does sweet sh!t all.
Note:
** Shifting into certain gears is weird as hell.
- Park is Park.
- Reverse just feels like park (rev's but no push) can rev to about 4.5k but same feeling as PARK.
- Neutral acts more like DRIVE when PWR mode is on (rev's higher) but I haven't made it go
any higher than 20kmph in it's current state as I'm afraid the thing will do itself in.
- DRIVE operates as normal , no difference in feeling or gear changes.
As far as I've been told (as I'm 2nd owner) , everything it's stock except for things
semi-unrelated to engine/transmission/gearbox i.e exhaust etc..
Is this a bad-common event in VR transmissions/gearboxes?
I'll do a fault test tomorrow as it's now late and I honestly cbf (glad it just got home)
and i'll report back, for now this is really all I know.
Btw. I'm no hoon , I don't rip skids n shit as this IS my only car!
Thanks in advance , hope to hear back shortly.
- Jake
Mine does it when it is cold (VP auto). I asked the question here already, but I don't think any Auto Specialists here want to tell you something they can't be sure of, without actually looking at it.
If you can get reverse when it's hot, then just think ahead when parking. If it's giving dramas all the time, then it's time for an exchange unit or rebuild!
The throttle position sensor (TPS) can cause the transmission to act up as the transmission uses the TPS signal to shift properly etc.The shifter linkage when it gets worn or loose can cause similar problems,it can select the wrong gear positions. And is the transmission fluid at the right level when its hot,(at running temp)?
I'd figure on the gearshift linkage where it connects to the transmission being loose/worn so that what gear you select is not the gear you get. You'll need to get under to check this. A low fluid level also can cause problems.
i was about to say it sounds like the auto fluid is low or completly burnt. if it is brown than a good drain and new filter is required at the very least.
Thanks for replies , my mate was looking at auto fluid and I vaguely remember looking at it and saw it was slightly brown , so there's an idea , i'll get that done.
In any case I'm gunna take it to my uncle who's manager (or somethin) at Winter & Taylor Geelong and see what he has to say.
That fluid sounds about it though.
Will report back soon , just got home!
thanks again!
