hi guys,
recently bought platinum plugs for my v6 vr and fitted them - started car and ran like a busted ars*. Pulled them out - checked them all fine so re-fitted and ran the same. wouldn't idle properly, wouldn't drive properly, it was like it had dropped a cylinder. Put the old NGK's back in and perfect again. WTF?
thanks in advance
did you check the plug gaps?
yeah, gapped them as per holden manual, and re-checked them the second time.
might be a dodgy plug by the sounds of it, maybe test them, theres prob a how to on testing plugs
ive had them same plugs for 2 changes now and not one problem at all, mine ran heaps better on them then the ngk's i used to use
make sure they are the same heat range, they could be too cold????
they are the Bosch ones and supposed to suit the VR - didn't have a choice in heat range.
Just take them back - sounds like one or more is a bad one and you as a customer are not expected to be able to tell which plug is bad - they are guaranteed to perform and in you case they have not 'performed'. If they won't exchange/refund just ring the Bosch agents and tell them your story. Play it cool and you will have no problems.
thanks hako - will do what you said and reply to post to let people know how I went
Bosch spark plugs and Holden do not seem to get along. I installed Bosch plugs and after about 5,000 km the engine started to miss and run rough. I didn't think it was the plugs because they were so new. After fart arsing around for a couple of weeks trying to find the cause, I replaced them with genuine plugs and my car has run as good as gold ever since.
your not the only 1 who has had this problem, its the way there set up that makes them run like that. my cuz used to work at a sprints auto n they had ppl taking em back coz of the same problem.
he put some in his twin turbo xf falcon n they screwd it.
sprints endend up giving em back to them coz off the issue.
i suggest you do the same thing n get sum others. thay should replace them at no extra cost..

yea replace them, my mate said most of the problem is due if the motor has a knock sensor ota than that yea been a different brand. if the car not's running 100% right its more than likely to run even worse. do a code check n see if that comes up with nething?

i am running platinum plugs now, i didnt notice any differnce over the gm ones... i personally dont think they are worth the extra $ unless you have an l67 or something that NEEDS extra spark.
Well after I put my ACDelco platinum plugs in and gaped them at 1.1 it did make a difference.
A bloke at work has a VS ute and put them in after I told him and was very happy.

Those expensive plugs don't give you extra spark. In fact they give you less. All it will do is wear slower as it's a denser metal.
They give a stronger park not less and when doing so and changing from normal to Platinum its wise to disconnect the battery and reconnect it to let the computer relearn ignition maps and emmision etc cause they are slightly different.
HALO spark plugs also advise relearn but maybe you got a bad batch but i doubt it.

NGK are the best plugs IMO.
Hi I changed plugs and leads the other day, used the bosch platinum plus plugs and topgun leads, car is running nicer than before so I cant see why these plugs dont work for other people, maybe they have other problems before they change over, cheers Bob.
They are probably just part of a bad batch of plugs.Although I wouldnt use bosch plugs anyway,I have seen them cause too much trouble, especially in bikes. NGK are the go.
Brett I am so impressed with my ACDelco platinum plugs would you like to test drive a set?
If you like I will send you a set of 6 and you can test them and report back.
Just remember they are for a 3.8l ecotec motor non supercharged.
Gap setting 1.1.
Cheers Peter.
