gday every one i am after a bit of help i have a vs v6 commodore i have just had the head gaskets done now i am having a bit of trouble when i get stuck in trafic the temp gage goes up over half way but once i am moving it will go down i have replaced the thermostat i went back to the mecanic whit this problem but he sais its ok the fans are kicking in i am a bit concerned because i do not want to pay out a nother $1500 to do the head gasket again i also have a vy commodore and the temp gage will go upto just under half and stay no matter how hot or cold any idears as how i can fix it so the temp gage will say in one spot thanks
Does the gauge keep going up or does it sit above half? On our vs the gauge will rise to a bit above half and stay there until we start moving.
These gauges are not 100% accurate, theye are designed to give you an idea of what is happening.
it has got upto the line after half way that is as far as it has gone so far
if it goes over 3/4 then start to panic, at 1/2 the low speed fan will kick in and at 3/4 the high speed fan should kick in and bring it back down to 1/2.
Sounds pretty normal to me. As The1 says, the time to worry is if it goes over 3/4. Once the fans kick in the motor cools rapidly. Ecotec engines are designed to run at high temperatures to obtain maximum power and economy which is why the pressure cap is 1.35Kpa (20psi).
cool thanks guys
