Hi there, glad to be a member of the biggest online commodore community.
Just a little about myself before I ask any questions:
Name: Jack
Age: 18 (19 in September)
Occupation: Student
Current Car: 1994 ED Falcon
Anyhow, as I mentioned I'm not only new to this forum, but new to holden...period!
No, I'm not a Ford fanboy. I appreciate all makes an models, plus I love the torque and power of the Ford inline 6s...they go surprisingly well:-)
Moving on...
Before I even got my licence I've wanted a VS, the falcon was given to me and was in immaculate condition (my pop owned it since new)...you'd be insane to knock back a free car in A1 condition! Now, I've finally come across a nice VS Calais with low Ks (80,000). It's immaculate, inside and out.
The only thing that worries me is that the owner said he's run it on E10 it's whole life.
Would this damage the engine at all? Or have any negative effect on the fuel system?
I've got $10,000 to spend. So if I purchase it I'll be getting some 19" BBOSS Elanors, Dark tinting, coilovers (are these even available for VS?), and a basic stereo (head unit, replace original speakers).
I'm going to wait a year or so, then probably get COME racing to rebuild the ecotec for me!
Then get the auto box rebuilt, and see about getting an LSD...any links about this would be greatly appreciated:-)
That's all, looking forward to hearing from you guys.
E10 is a pretty refined fuel nower days, I still wouldnt use it , and soon enough thats all people are going to have the choice of using, most commo's dont have issues with it, but best to get a nice fuel injection clean and you will feel a lot better about it if you were to buy it,
80000kms on VS Calais, is insanely awesome, is it a series II or not,
You will find that most calais already have Independant Rear for the axle, and its best get the wheel size right before droping it hard and havent the rough as guts ride of ya life,
Tint is a Defo
Nice stereo to suit the buttons on the steering wheel is a must
Best to check all the fluids especially the Gearbox when purchasing
and if your clever enough and the owner allows you too, do an error check (look up the forum for details)
I got a mad bargin with my Berlina, and bloke thought it was worth nothing, so got it for a steal, fixed up some minor issues myself, and the car goes like brand new, even get comments for my mechanic how smooth it runs,
VS is the Best model of Commodore out, heaps of Versatility and heaps people here on the forums for plenty of DIY problem solving
welcome mate
E10 should run ok, but standard 91ron is the go unless you start tuning for 95,98. 91 is stated in the manual as prefered. Awesome pickup for 80,000km, got heaps of life left in it.
sounds like a bargain! if you do every service properly and every 5000km i can pretty much guarantee it will last a long time. on another note, make sure you buy and install a camber kit for your rear end if you lower it and put bigger rims on it, as the irs on the early irs commodores has the tendency to camber.
P.S upload the pics when you drive your ED off a cliff :P
