Hey guys.
Had abit of a search around but didn't find anything.
I put my extractors in last night, drivers side is a bitch as some would know, to get them in I took off my spark plug leads, took out the plugs took of the tappet cover and gently slide them in.
Put it all back together, and now it runs like its missing or something.
I've check all the plug leads there all in the correct spot.
I've checked for codes, it's showing code 12.
The one thing Im possibly leaning towards is the o2 sensor( the sensor on the exhaust just before cat?) that came with the extractors. If that's buggered does it run like shit?
Thanks heaps guys, hoping it's something little.
If they are silicon type plug leads, when they are removed from the spark plugs they can sometimes get a bit stuck. If they are not pulled off by the end caps ,or if they are pulled too hard, it can break the carbon centre core of the lead which will cause a misfire. The oxygen sensors wont cause a misfire. The engine management system doesnt even use them until the engine is up to running temp anyway. All a crook oxy sensor will do really is effect the fuel economy.
i had this issue when getting extractors and exhaust. My issue was with the leads not performing as they should. May be worth looking at a bit closer, good luck
I thought it had something to do with the leads.
I've wiggled them and put them in as much as I can.
Could I possibly be up for new leads?
More money -_- lol
pinch a set of leads off a mate and try them if the misfire gose then you know thats the problem i do it all the time with a mates vr i have a statesman in the shed if you need parts lol
Might get away with replacing just one lead but would be best to replace them all at once.
Once again, this is not a definate answer to your problem so dont go out and spend money untill you test them somehow. I am pretty sure that you can test the leads using some fandangled gadget. I am not too sure how it works tho sorry, good luck
Test the leads with a multimeter.Move the leads around as you take the readings as this will show up any breaks in the leads core. Its best to replace them as a set if they turn out to be the problem.According to a workshop manual the maximum resistance in the V8 sparkplug leads is 25,000 ohms.

Actually, They were changing abit when i had the multi meter on them but the readings i ended up getting were.
1. 2.87
3. 3.33
5. 3.38
2. 5.85
4. 6.35
6. 5.77
All tested with the meter on 20k ohms.
But i had to hold it still to get a straight answer.
If its missing its either a cracked spark plug or broken leads.
Another thing to try is disconnect both terminals on the battery for 10 or so minutes then reconnect them and let the computer relearn with the new exhaust fitted.
Those lead readings are fine but if its broken it will give you false hope.
Cracked plug 95% ^ I agree, pull them all out and carefully look for cracks, you should see at least one is broken. Just buy another set and be go a bit easier when you put them in this time
There should be a rubber ring that sits inside the sparkplug socket that helps to prevent the above from happening.Remember to keep the wrench straight and inline with the sparkplug ,its the side pressure from a crooked wrench that cracks them.
I saw something a while ago where the leads were losened on the coil pack and then with the engine running, they were removed 1 by 1 until there was no difference in the idle. This would then indicate the faulty plug, lead, coil etc.
Finally got a chance yesty to take out the plugs.
This explains everything...
Replaced all 6 plugs and she runs sweet again =D
Thanks heaps for all your help guys.
hi mate i got a prob with me 94 vr 5L caprice stateman i was driveing and she dyed in tha ars she coffs splaters i go 2 put in drive and put my foot down she dyes in tha ars a again mate so i replace the coil she coffs and splatters still so bort spark plug leads i put them on it dose the sames oh im looking 4 dyegram 4 the fire order soz being a pain man have a good 1 cheers man
try changing your tps sensor mate. its the sensor that is connected to underneath your throttle body that senses how open or closed the butterfly is. should be able to get one from a wreckers for like 5 or 10 bucks. if that doesnt work try your map sensor (the small black box attached to the firewall near your throttle body) and also check out the hose from the map sensor to the throttle body for damage, that can cause similar problems too. good luck mate![]()
