after fixing my altanator i now have another problem.when i go to start it i have to accelerate to get it to start.its like it doesnt want to start, then when it does start it blows a cloud of white smoke
White smoke, are you sure its not steam, you might have a leaking inlet manifold gasket, very common problem on the V6 but not to hard to repair. The other thing is you might have a blown head gasket,Id be getting the cooling system pressure tested and also get the engine compression tested, these tests are cheap to get done the only way to be sure of the condition of the engine, and to make sure its not leaking/blown gaskets thats causing you problems.

as an ammendment to the above, if you do have a buick 3.8 in your vr it is most likely your inlet manifold gasket, it seems to be a common occurence on buicks
