Default vs headlights auto turn off.

    Hi all,
Raining here today so had my headlights on and left them on after turning motor off and locked car.
The headlights should turn off after a short time no?
It was a good 15mins before I went down and turned them off.
    Any ideas????

Berlina and Calais have programmable off time using the dimmer control on the headlamp switch.
Maybe try resetting to a shorter time.
The procedure should be in the owners manual.

This is what it says in the VS gregorys workshop manual about the auto lamps off delay.

1)Turn the ignition on.Switch the park lamps on and close the drivers side door.
2)Hold the courtesy lamp switch on and turn the ignition off.
3)Open the drivers door. This starts the delay period.
4)Wait the desired time period and release the courtesy lamp switch. The delay period is now set and the park lamps will go out.
Note. The delay period will not be set if the vehicle is moving. The maximum delay period is 120 seconds, the default delay period is 0 seconds.

My executive VS does it but I have never tried to set the timer, it is set to the default peroid of 0 seconds which means the lights turn straight off with the key and they come back on when the key is turned back on.

The instructions for setting the auto-off seems to differ from Gregorys to the factory Owners Handbook which comes with every new car....anyways, I've attached a pix of what the General says.

Ahhh cheers for that hako. Have to hold the dimmer switch down. I was holding it in the up position. Double checked my car manual and it says the same thing. Neat trick.

The gregorys is just plain wrong. It says to hold the courtesy light on,whereas its meant to be held down in the dim position.

I just checked out my executive and it turns off the headlights automatically as soon as the key is turned to the off position, they come back on when the key is turned back on again. The delay time cant be set on the executive models.Id say its because of the low series BCM used in the lower luxury models.

    Correct.

Executive only has a two position switch for dash lamps where as berlina and above has a variable resistor (bcm) control for dash lamps.

If yours has the adjustable timer (berlina, calais,or statesman) you might have to go through the process hako has posted above out of his owners handbook that shows the setting procedure to get it to work again.

You might try resetting the BCM again.Just remove the fuel pump fuse in the fuse box under the bonnet for 1 second. The gregorys also says that the correct resetting of the BCM can be confirmed by a clicking sound from within the BCM,the interior light coming on and the theft deterrent alert indicator flashing.

did that and got a gregorys
didn`t hear clinking or interior light coming on
the theft deterrent alert indicator flashing ok
    I`ll have another go.
Do you think the switch could be faulty.

You might have to stick your head under the dash down near the pedals to hear it click while someone else replaces the fuel pump fuse.

    Found problem.
Got to work yesterday in the dark and opened door to get out and the courtesy light didn`t come.
So got a new courtesy light switch and reset the BCM and set the timer for the lights and it worked.
    Thanks for the help guys.
