Hey all,
Got a 2.5" catback system with center muffler and no resi. I like the sound but wouldn't mind it being louder as it is rather quiet, I want it to be head turning *insert joke about 'cops head turning'*. Like how you hear a loud lancer go by your house, is that possible for a VS V6? NOTE: I don't want it to sound like a lancer exhaust, just as loud as they are. (Just using Lancer as an example as one drove by my house when i was trying to think of how to describe it lol maybe if i can get my car to sound like a big ole muscle Torana or a chevy impalla)
My thought was that I could get the muffler replaced maybe with another size? my muffler looks rather large at the moment so maybe if that were smaller than the sound would be louder? anyone changed the muffler on their car for sound?
help
advice
thanks

personally i find lancers with exhausts to be a waste of money. to answer your question changing the muffler will change the sound but it probably wont be head turning unless you take it out, and even still it will be for the wrong reasons. invest in a decent but cheap cat-back or better yet if finances permit buy a set of pacemakers and a complete exhasut system.
I already got a good 2.5" catback system with just a center muffler, was thinking about extractors on it as well. heard there is no point in hi flows or whatever on a V6 ecotec though. I was just thinking that having a smaller muffler put on would make it sound louder yeah? just dunno what size i should go for. is it possible to replace a center muffler with a hotdog? LOL
anything is possible, but with the right parts and setup you cna actually get a nice tune out of the ecotecs. i would say buy some extractors and see how you like it. and if you have the money buy a cam kit, this will make it sound lumpy and give you a noticable amount of power aswell.
Do some research on the net about mufflers. Different muffler design will have different sounds like a chamber style muffler will produce more lower grumbly sound and a straight through design will sound different. And any lancer with a loud Exhaust does not sound good.
this is how lancers get there sound...
4.5" CANNON STYLE EXHAUST INLET MUFFLER PIPE ROUND TIP - eBay Mufflers, Exhausts, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 28-Apr-10 10:10:36 AEST)
EDIT: and it gives u a extra 5-10 hp LOL
Bro I don’t want to be rude but if you want that crap lancer sound go bye the crap lancer. And if you want a true grumble get a V8.
Like I said look on the net find out more info on mufflers. Why do you want a commodore to sound like a lancer and who would want that?
why loudness anyways? .. unless its actually got power and grunt whats the point for having noise? .. ya want a lancer, just buy a lancer :S
Most loud lancers make me turn my head for the wrong reasons. It's like a gag reflex.
im not saying at all that i want the car to 'sound' like a lancer, i just want the car to sound loud like some lancers and others cars you hear. What I'm after is possibley a cannon variant that keeps the great muscle sound of the VS. My VS sounds good when it is floored, but i want it louder most of the time instead of just when i give it the kick. I do not want it to sound like a lancer or to buy a lancer at all.
Something like an old chevy or something and how loud those muscles are, lancer was just a though on the sound as I heard one go by my house at the time.
Just go a smaller muffler for cheap loudness. Then go extractors later. Ecotecs sound crap either way. Damn refinement's making them quiter.
Please dont tell me your vs is an auto?!?!? Nothing worse worse than a loud auto!
Dump the exhaust after the cat. Simple.
Or just weld a long hotdog resi (~2 feet) in place of your muffler
heres some info mate, if you want it loud just dump it after the cat. will be loud all the time.
also, is there really 3 threads (inc this one) needed on the same question?
VS 2.5" exhaust with no mufflers?
Rear Resi Removal
Well, the 'Rear resi removal' was about the sound diff it would do.
the 'no mufflers' was about what it'd sound like with no mufflers and who had done it.
this thread is about different types of mufflers that can better sound.
yes they are all about exhaust and sound, but all ask diff questons about it and have given me different responses too.
don't see the problem.
What your after is a smaller straight through muffler plain and simple. Smaller size = less sound muffling material.
