I'm pretty sure i'm answering my own question here but, isn't this supposed to be covered with something? And if i don't have it now, would it have been possible to loose it while driving?
I had my transmission changed a while back, i'm contemplating if it wasn't put back on again.

yeah, should have the cover on it. Looks like they left it off. Not good!
If you lost it while driving and didn't notice then I'd be very surprised, and you shouldn't be driving![]()
mayb they didnt put the bellhousing back on??????
There should be a stamped steel cover, retained by about four decent sized screws or bolts. If it had been replaced at the time your trans was swapped, and not tightened, you probably would have heard it rattling before it fell off. I reckon it's more likely that it was not refitted when the trans was done.
bloody hell thats not good
i would say it would have been left off when the box was replaced
i tried to get that part off mine with the engine and gearbox still in the car and i couldnt get it off, theres no way that would have just fallen off
and if it could happen it would have made a hell of a noise
from memory i think that has a part that sump bolts go through as well
all the water and crap going in there couldnt be good for your starter and other stuff
on the upside would be easy to see if the rear main was leaking![]()

Me thinks you better go back to where the trans replacement was done, and ask them what's the go with that, cause that's pretty damn slack and dodgy.. :|
thats an oops by the mechanics.![]()

not good.................................
FAIL - take it back to the place you got the trans installed at lol, good luck.
Another great professional job bought to you by the ****wits of car repair, lucky you did not take it down a old farm path for instance.
on the other hand take it back to em I hear they have a roll of alfoil to fix this sort of complaint.
thats also the main support for the auto to motor mount, luckey nothing has been twisted or damaged
the auto it's self is sealed but it can cause havoc with the starter motor and it can become noisy after some time due to dust etc. i would be more worried about the lack of strength and the possible cause of cracking the block etc
Impossible to answer as a definite yes or no, as there are too many variables.
It is Quite possible some dirt and moisture could have found it's way inside.
But no way to tell for sure if this is the cause of any problems you may be having since the new install.
Cause you have no way of knowing the exact condition of the tans before install, weather the install was done correctly, just too many variables.
All you could really do is go back to the place that done the work, and have them check it over, replace the missing cover, and refuse to pay for any of it.![]()
It is only a dust cover that is missing. The cover does not add any strength etc to the trans mounting to the engine block. The dust cover only bolts to the trans.
With that over, I did have 1 come lose and it was rubbing on the flex plate. Had a look underneath and it was only holding on by 1 screw with the other 3 missing
If it did fall off, in the OP's situation, it would have rubbed for a while and made a hell of a noise.
If they dont have it still, gl finding one. My old mechanic had to make one for me because there were none anywhere (made out of carbon fibre lol)

You dont need it. I have driven my VS 9,000ks in the last 7 months without one and not had any negative effects because of it.
Interesting - surely modding it would be safer/better than just taking it off.
Modding the cover? not really any point. cutting a big hole in it would just be time consuming and have exactly the same effect
Was thinking more like cutting a big hole and replacing it with mesh or something lol.
