Hi guys. I was wondering if anyone can help me out.
I recently changed the spark plugs on my vr v6 series 1.
First I changed the plugs on the passenger's side and drove
it (for an emergency) it missfired. I then changed the remaining plugs,
it still did the same. I changed all the leads and it made no difference. As
I've continued to drive it, it seems to missfire less and less and is almost
back to normal now. I'm wondering if its something to do with the ecu and if
it will fix itself? Its also noteworthy that the car does not reach normal operating
temperature (doesn't even come close to it, its really low...)
Wondering if anyone can shed some light on what might be wrong.
The old plugs had been in there for over two years and were in pretty good nick considering,
I replaced them with the same type (NGK BPR6EFS-15).
The missfiring is only evident at some rpm, and intensifies with throttle opening.
The car was running perfectly before I changed the plugs.
If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.
Thanks
You might have cracked one of the plugs as you were putting them in.Its easily done.Recheck them all.Are the plug gaps set right? The silicon type leads can break easily if they are pulled too hard or pulled off the plugs wrong...The carbon core inside the lead breaks which renders the lead useless. Also check the coils. The coils can cause similar problems to what you have described.Borrow or get a known working coil and try it in all the 3 places where your coils are,one at a time obviously, and drive it each time its swapped to see if theres any difference. Also check for any error codes, heres the link.Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)
