    Default New engine for vs

Appears that I may have accidently but stupidly seized the engine on my vs (wont know for sure till i get it towed). Wondering what sort of costs Im facing to have a new engine put in? Given that its a 95 model would I be better off just scrapping the car and updating??

depends if you can do the engine change your self, a new motor will set you back around $500.

How did you manage to seize it up?

Im a girl lol. Therefore stupid! It heated up last night on the way home from work so when I got home I gave it half an hour then topped up the water (it need 3l to be full) and also topped up the oil which was fairly low. On the way to work it started to smell hot (but the temp gauge never went past 3/4) then the engine made a tinny rattle sound and lost power was about to pull over and then it just stalled with steam billowing. cant restart it. Im thinking must have done a head gasket last night hence the temp gauge didn't go up this am. Stupid Stupid Stupid Now Im waiting for it to be towed home $130 for less than 20 km, Im sure im being ripped off

You ain't stupid, just unlucky this time. $130 is good for a 20km tow. Hopefully there may not be major damage done to your engine - you say it turns over so that is a good sign. The steam/water probably has saturated the coils stopping it from starting. I hope it ends up not a big drama so think positive....Good Luck.

the oil is the more important of the two, hopefully it wasn't low enough not to suck air, otherwise it shouldn't be to bad being under 3/4 which is fine. Let us know how it goes, either way you can get ecotec engines for $500 it's just the labour putting it in.
