40ltr fuel tank in a vr wagon wtf???

hi
i baught a vr wagon cheep as it need some work

my main problem is i filled it the other day and the gauge went right past fulll, a ran around for a week back and forth to work(300klms) and it ran out of fuel 100mtrs from home...grrrr!!

with the gauge only showing 1/4

so i rang the old owners and they only just decide to tell me it runs out on qtr tank
i managed to get it to servo filled it and it only took 43 ltrs
i know for sure that most commodres come out with a 60lt+ tank

my main question is is ther a diff between a sedan pump/sender to a wagon pump / sender as they are different shaped tanks??

my only theory is a sedan pump may have been put into this wagon

any 1 know the part numbers etc etc or had this happen to them?

Sedan and wagon pumps are the same. If it stops at 1/4 tank, the retrun line inside the tank is either not connected or broken

any ideas how i fix that.

i asume the tank will have to be d/c, there would be 15ltrs of fuel still in the tank when it will have to come of what a pain in the a#*e

Look at other threads on here about it, there ary many others with the same problem.

sedan and wagon pump brackets with sender are not the same. i have a tread here somewhere about this and alot more too. my new wagon was running out on 1/4 the hose was decintragrated inside the tank.
