    Default Oil pickup touching sump?

Is the oil pick up pipe supposed to make contact with the bottom of the sump? I went to put the sump back on and it's balancing on the oil pickup before it sits flush with the block :S.

The pick up is not supposed to touch the sump at all. Should have about 10mm gap no more no less. Did someone jack the car up on the sump?
Also the sump can't be put on backwards, the rails are not Symmetrical

I would look at getting a new sump at least because if it because if it gets worse the sump will seal the pick up and you will lose oil pressure and hurt the engine.
I work at ASR oilpans. I might be able to help.

Definitely not the sump. I've tried two and they both do the same thing. It's definitely on the right way.

Yeah i removed it and laid it on a table. Definitely didn't treat it in a way as to bend it. I even tried bending it in my hands and i couldnt, so it's beyond me...

im guessing the engine is out of the car.... grab a pic of it and throw it up for us to have a look, the pick up may not be in far enough or something silly

Just checking one out in a manual.Theres not much to them ,they just bolt on with two bolts. There cant be much wrong.Does anyone know if the ecotec ever got released with different sumps fitted in any of the newer models,or are they all the same? Is the engine out of the car originally, or is it a new one being fitted?

Trust me I build at least one of these pans every week, It's not on wrong it can't be, it has to be bent or the pan's rooted.

Definitely bends towards the front of the engine. I tried to move the filter end and the flange end but nothing gives. The sumps do vary a bit, one takes a paper/cork gasket, the other one takes a rubber seal. But neither one fits so i'm digressing.

Went to the wrecker and got the proper one, its a good inch shorter than the other. I reckon the other one is from a different engine like a buick or something.

What was shorter the pick up or sump ? if you put a different pick up in to start with dident ya think that could be the issue to start with ? but if ya dident how is it now the wrong one ?

The pickup. I had 2 engines on the go, both ecotec though, neither sump fitted with the pickup, so i'm guessing the pickup was possibly replaced by the previous owner or something.
