Hey everyone,
I have a 97 VS V6 Commonwhore.
I was driving back from sydney and my engine light came on. Once I got home, I checked the code and it was 19. Thottle position sensor - stuck. While driving the car over the next couple of days the throttle was very sluggish and on the odd occasion I would feel a big spurt of power. The car also bounced off the rev limiter a number of times. As I have had error 19 before I purchased a new TPS.
On my trip to purchase the TPS, I drove out of the street and the transmission stayed in first. I let go of the accelerator and it still stayed in first. Once I revved it up to 4-6 grand then let go of the accelerator it changes to second. If I hold my foot down in first, it bounces the rev limiter then finally engages second very roughly.
Now If I put my foot down slightly in second, it changes into first and bounces the crap out of the rev limiter. I can't get it to engage third. If I manually select 3rd its the same as drive. If I manually select 2nd Its neutral.
I bought a berlina for the gearbox only just before christmas as my transmission had died and now it seems I may be going through the same drama again. After purchasing TPS throttle response is back, but transmission problem remains.
Transmission was working fine before my trip to sydney so any thoughts would be appreciated.
The TPS can cause problems with the transmission shifts as the transmission uses the signal from the TPS to help control the shifts.Id replace the sensor with a new one.If you can, use a genuine holden one.Check the wiring and connector that goes to the sensor first though.
and disconect the battery for a bit to reset it than go for a spin
I have d/c battery and reset ECU and replaced TPS. Throttle response is now normal but transmission still has all above symptoms.
Gonna go to the transmission shop n get a check tomorrow. Any idea if it could be an electrical problem? Shift solenoids etc?
Maybe do a service on the transmission.Theres not much to it.Just buy a new transmission filter which comes with a new pan gasket for around $25 and also get 5 litres of Dexron 111 trans fluid.Drop the transmission pan, pull the filter out and its seal.Clean the pan and the pan magnet, refit the new filter and its seal.Bolt the pan back on with the new pan gasket.Than fill it up with fluid to the right level. It makes a big difference to how the transmission operates.A lot of people forget about servicing it or think its to hard to do.Theres no adjustments to be done any more on auto transmissions like band adjustments etc.Everything is controlled by the ECU.
When I replaced the transmission just before christmas I actually did a service on it then and haven't driven many huge distances. Driving me nuts!
