hi all
we have a 1994 halden barina. today i notived a small puddle of oil in the bottom of the air filter.. not alot just a small amount where the breather hose enters from the engine cover..
would u think its rings as it has 230k on it, or could a oil change with some quality oil help ( oil in it is thin and needs a change) thinking that one of these reasons could be the cause..
sorry this isnt a commodore question..
thanks in advance

im pretty sure right where it sits there is a breather hose that goes to the top of engine so with vacumme etc it would be likely to draw a small amount in, this has nothing to do with piston rings wearing out, there is oil circulating in the top end of the engine as per normal, depends if yours is carbie like mine 1992 if it's efi it might be completely different.
thanks for the reply. it is a carby model barina.. i have never taken air filter apart and decided to have a look today, only had car a short time.
i knew the main hase was a breather for the top of the engine, i just dont like seeing a puddle of oil in the cleaner. i will try to get a pic of it for u

yep same as my 92 then, it's normal, i get a bit there as well, i give it a clean up when putting a new filter in. Mine has 250k on it, there a hardy little engine, i use mobil 10w 40 x2 which is what it states under the bonnet i think
here is a pic..

yeh that's it, there's a lip over the hole so it doesn't spray on your filter. I change my filter every 20k and i have about the same amount.
thats has put a smile on my face,, thanks for all your help
