Default Question about leak under car, (pics included)

Hey folks, so I got four nice little leaks under my car. Pretty sure it's transmission fluid but I just wanted to know what the part was called and how I can go about changing it.

Pictures are attatched. It's the [dirty] silver pan there.

    Cheers!

    Thanks adds_05

And what filter are you talking about bear76? Is there one inside there?

It's definitely a red coloured fluid which is why I thought transmission fluid.

I suppose this is going to drain a whole lot of xmission fluid when I take the pan off hey

Yes there is.The auto transmission filter is in there, and its worth keeping it serviced regularly. The filter costs $25 and it also comes with a new pan gasket (which could be whats leaking on yours anyway). You will need a 5 litre bottle of dexron 111 trans fluid as well.It pretty easy to change it,just undo and remove the transmission pan(be careful, the fluid will drain when the pan is loosesed),clean the pan and pan magnet with clean cloth (this magnet just sits on the bottom of the pan),remove the old filter and and its seal, then install the new filter with its new seal.If you run into any problems, you can post here anyway and someone will be able to help.
If you want to do stuff like this on your car you should consider getting hold of a workshop manual.Well worth it.If you cant find a factory one ,then get a gregorys brand manual.

I know what you mean.Mine is costing me a bit at the moment too.Spending to get a few things fixed, then when you just get on top of it all, something else comes up then. Its never ending.

Just my two bobs worth but I'd reckon it's the front transmission seal - if was just a pan seal the oil always gets blown towards the rear plus you can usually nip the bolts up to stop a leak. If it is the transmission seal, doing the pan seal won't improve matters (especially your wallet) so if it was me, I'd clean the area and carefully check exactly where it is leaking from. Spray above the pan with spray degreaser then hose off...start the engine and run for a minute then have a look under the car to see where it's leaking from. If it is the front transmission seal, you will need to remove the transmission to replace the seal or add a can of 'trans stop leak'
Other possibles are the trans oil cooler connectors and the power steering rack which uses the same fluid.
    Good Luck.

I double that, my endless list is terrible. I think i get atleast 2 days inbetween before something else blows up.

Also i would check the power steering, check the reservoir levels. The oil can move like crazy, my reservoir was leaking and it was travelling all the way back to the transmission.
