i recently changed o ring that is on speed sensor on my vr acclaim wagon, the good thing is it now not leaking, the bad it seams to have a whine in that general area.
i found it was coming from there , at slow speed i opened drivers door and can hear it, somewhere around the uni joint
i can only hear it at slow speed once im doing 30klms or more i cant hear it till i slow down..
when i changed the seal i lost about 3oo ml of tranny fluid
do i need to replace this (the fluid)via the speed sensor sender hole or will it be getting fluid via the dipstick???
i cheacked tranny when hot running in park and its full
just this whine which in last few days has got louder and is rather annoying
could it be the diff making this noise (travelling up tail shaft)
also how do u chech diff oil level?

You top up the transmission fluid via the dipstick hole. Was the noise there before you changed the o ring seal?
no not at all.. maybe it would benifeit with a tranny service
The speed sensor might not be sitting in the transmission properly.Id remove it again to check it out and make sure everything is as it should be.
yeah will do torrow, i had a llok today looks good, maybe its a diff noise.........
i asume tranny fluid would drain as far back to speed sensor???
is there some kind of bearing between tailshaft- tranny, maybe thats what all the noise is about
If the noise just started after you had the sensor out,I dont think that it will be the diff or the universal joints on the tail shaft making the noise.(unless you have undone something on them as well). It could be something to do with low trans fluid.Just fill it back up to the proper level then see if it still does it.The trans fluid will get back to the sensor no problems, just top it up the way I mentioned before through the dipstick tube..
yeah i have done all toping up, through dipstick, was just m aking sure fluid got back to sensor.
still whines ,
the fluid didnt look the best., but as i asked above is there a bearing at end of tail shaft tranny end?
Extension housing does;nt have bearing its just bushing and seal.
update:
did a tranny service today.. was easier than what i thought....... until i had half done all sump nuts up and realised i forgot the filter....
all in all went well after that
looks like it hasnt had a servisin 370,00klms, as the filter was feral
even better the whine has gone that was around the speed sensor( my original reason for opening this post)
any one know total capacitly , for transmission/cooler?
did you do the tranny service yourself glennis?
i sure did took me about a hr all up, saved my self $135 compared to the local mechanic/thief
is there a filter in the gearbox that can be replaced?
yeah it comes as a kit from repco, (filter and corkgasket )
fluid and service kit cost $ 54.00
Glennis, It says in my Gregory's manual a tranny service refill requires 4.8 litres....... [ total compacity 7.9 litres ] for a dry refill .
It also says to check the level properly is to bring it up to normal operating temps, [ take it for a spin of no less than 24 klm ], then park it on a level ground whilst motor is still running, go through all the gears then put her in Park, then check the level and top it off if needed.
good luck

ok thanks for that.. funny it has taken over 5 ltrs to fill it......
when i dranned the sump and cooler it sat overnight. so it was completly empty.
thanks all the same.
