    Default digital speedo

    hi all

few days ago i took out the instrument cluster to try fix my fuel gauge issue.. when i put it back it now my speedo wont work.. needle isnt sticking and it worked fine before..
when i realised my speedo wasnt working i thought i would just use digital speedo on speed alert but to my surprise this wasnt working either.. cant understand whats happening as it was all good and all i did was pull gauges out to check fuel side, i didnt touch the speedo side at all apart from removing needle to get under the plastics...
any help would be greatly appreciated as its getting hard to drive the legal limit when i dont know how fast im going..

    TIA

Did you solder up the voltage regulator while it was apart? Have you plugged the speedo connector in to the back of the speedo?

I would be sus of the PBC backing on the cluster One of the copper tracks may be broken.

no voltage reg turned out fine so i dusted it off and put it back in.. speedo was plugged in at back, checked this many times.. i decided to rip it back out and follow your advise checking the PCB backing, one of the tracks was broken. it was the "pulse ground" one. remembering a post i read about fixing these i carefully scrapped it back either side of break using a blade and cut thin strip of foil. then useing clear tape i stuck strip of foil over to bridge where it was broke..
i will put it in in the morning and see if it fixed it..

    thanks for the advice mate

It's either the speed sensor, wires between, dash plug or cluster. If you only touched the cluster = No 1 suspect.

Long shot here - But did any of the dash plugs pop out when the cluster came out. I have seen cars with them in the wrong way around.

worth a look at the plug. the one with speedo came out, but i thought there was only one way to put them in.. i will go check that..
and i agree about the cluster being the number 1 suspect..

When you say the voltage regulator looked fine - did you re-solder anything?

The speed alert not working says to me it's not getting pulse signal from the speed sensor. And the fact that the speed sensor has not been touched.

It will be the cluster PCB, wire connector or voltage regulator

Do a very good close inspection of the PCB on the back of the cluster and also check the part that mates up with the dash plugs - can be bent back on itself and not make contact.
