    Default engine miss/dies

the missus VS developed a stumble of idle a few weeks ago, the problem has progressed to the point that the engine dies temporarily untill you take your foot of the gas and then it comes back to life. engine check light comes on when this happens.

it first started off idle when you took off to quickly and if you kept it in first and accelerated hard. in any other gear it accelerates fine right up to the rev limiter.

now it's doing it any time you do more then the most gently of movement of the accelerator.

i did try to log using EFIlive but the engine died completely and now it won't get a datastream from the ecu

    any thoughts suggestions.

i've already changed the TPS but it hasn't made any difference. i will try my spare ecu on the weekend

edit: just tried to fit a fuel pressure gauge.... cut the fuel line but it's got a hard plastic liner and the hose tails on my fuel pressure gauge aren't gonna fit managed to find a small bit of steel pipe to join em back up so atleast it is drivable.

when you cycle the key from off to on and off again the IAC on the TB is making some horrible noises. sounds really loud. gonna try another one on the weekend AARRRGGGG. i hate this car

yeah, leads are a possibility but they aren't that old and it's not just a single cylinder missing. it's more that all the cylinders are missing. it's almost like hitting a fuel cut.

edito that means new fuel filter on the weekend also

problem found. as it turns out, the fault is electrical. to be exact, the starter motor cable running from the battery has been rubbing against the power steering pump pulley and shorting out occasionally. this seems to occur when you load up the engine and when going over a large bump. with the cable pulled away from the offending area car drove fine

battery also died this morning. not sure if this is related. but it was turning over a bit slow the first time it was cranked. especially on a few really cold mornings this week. alternator charging fine at 14.4volts

fitted a new fuel filter which made no difference. amazing how much shit came out of it when i drained it

so any way, the dying problem is gone. engine turns over great now, however you need to crank it for ages before it starts i wonder if the shorting out of the cable has done any damage to other electrical componentry.

i fixed the fuel line problem today, fitted a fuel pressure gauge and everything is up the shit with the fuel system too. at idle it has 43psi (high vac), with a few revs it goes up to 50+psi (no vac). these pressures suit the VT injectors which are rated @ 3.5bar

as soon as you shut the engine down the fuel pressure drops sweet **** all , tried blocking the return line, no difference (but the fuel pressure didn't rise either ), tried blocking the feed line, no difference so it looks like injectors again. i only replaced these about a year ago

That fuel pump pressure is within specification according to a workshop manual. The fuel pressure wont drop much when the engine is turned off.Its normal. They always hold some residual pressure in the line.Thats why you need to depressurise the system when changing the fuel filter or disconnecting any other part of the fuel system.

yeah, you got. no fuel pressure when switched off

gonna have to lift the top half of the intake to get the injectors out to see which one is pissing out fuel. **** not again

chucked a bottle of injector cleaner in the tank this morning. see if that does anything. the rate at which the fuel pressure drops on shut down seems way to fast to be a leaking injector unless they are all leaking, takes about 2seconds to go from 40psi to 0
