Default Later model steering wheels onto a VS

    Hi all,

Now I realise that VT steering wheels will fit onto a VS as they are basically the same thing. What I would like to know is: Will steering wheels from VYs, VEs, etc fit a VS...both mechanically (shaft size, number of splines, etc) and electrically (wiring)?

    Thanks

    Shaundy.

the biggest problem you will face is the air bag, and i wouldnt even start to play with an air bag from another model. if it dont go off in a accedent and you are seriously injured some questions will be asked and if insured, they possibly wont pay

air bags use diffrent inpedence (ohms) etc so i would say no, dont even bother

Funny, I tried fitting a VT calais (leather) steering wheel to my VS. Splines were completly different (larger) and clock spring was different but air bag unit is the same.
If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

You could make anything fit if you modify it. If you put a VY wheel on you will have to modify the wiring, also since your car is an executive (I'm assuming no airbag) You'll need to disable the airbag.

For reference I've done an upgrade of sorts

Ok, this can be done (I have) but it is by no means an easy task at all and I wouldn't recommend it unless you've lots of time and quality workmanship skills. I've fitted a leather vy wheel to my vs and this was not a quick changeover. In short, only vr/vs wheels will fit your vs as a straight swap. Other models use different size steering columns and therfore also have a different amount of splines to fit the shaft. As already mentioned there is also the issue of the airbag (if you have one). Mine didn't so i've not connected the vy airbag in any way. Horn ring and clock spring is also different and has to be customised so you will have a working horn and the indicators will self-cancel. For the work involved you may be better off searching for a vs hsv (leather) wheel or getting yours wrapped. It certainly is nice to have something a little more custom though
