please dont flame me if this is a dumb question, but im new to the world of mechanics so be kind! how do i know if my car has ABS? im assuming my car is IRS. its a series 2 vs equipe and ABS was one of the options that could be specified upon the car when purchased. the holden dealer the original owner got the car from failed some what and provided log books for the car for a vs calais and not an equipe, so dont give the exact specifications on my car. can anyone tell me of a way i can check or point me in the direction of a thread which already covers this? my research skills on this forum are somewhat lacking...
Hello,
I maybe wrong but when you put your car on reds (turn key 2 times) there should be a light that say ABS on your dash.
look in the engine bay drivers side.
Bottom left hand corner see that silver box with pipes coming out of it that is the ABS.
Hope that helps.

so my car doesnt have ABS as it doesnt have that box.... gay! i know the dash has the ABS light but it never comes on. later on down the track i plan on doing the VT brake upgrade to my car, front and rear and using the master cyclinder. will i have any problems doing this as the VT would be ABS and mine currently isnt?
I think you'll find that the previous owner was supplied with the correct logbook - the one with "Commodore Calais" covers all from an Exec to a Calais and everything in between...the Equipe is next up after the Exec and well below a Calais and is covered by this book.
Re the brakes - the ABS bit is separate from the caliper/discs (located on the hub) that you plan to replace so should not be a problem. There is a "how-to" on it.

ah ok, learn something new everyday. thanks for that hako, youve filled me in with two things there, much appreciated. ive seen the how-to on the vt brake upgrade floating around but havent given it a proper read yet as itll be some time until i do the upgrade
