I've just replaced my buggered 5HDD tranny in my 95 VR V6 with a 4HDD. It now comes up with fault code 83 (TCC PWM solenoid fault) for a few seconds after startup and I have no torque converter lockup. Apart from that it shifts fine and selects all gears correctly.
Now I know the 4HDD doesn't use a PWM solenoid to lock the converter, while a 5HDD does and i'm assuming this is why i'm getting the fault code. Is there is any modification I can do to get the converter locking up correctly in the 4HDD tranny or do I have to go on the hunt for a 5HDD?

you can fit your old valvebody to the trans or if its wired correct for single solinoid operation may be able to just fit the early tune to tired to think at the moment LOL
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong

Yeah i'm going to do that! I'm not sure if the solenoids out of the old trans are any good so i'm going to swap the solenoids out of the 4HDD into the 5HDD valve body (apart from the TCC PWM solenoid). Also going to have to swap the internal loom from the 5HDD to the 4HDD I think. Hopefully that fixes up the problem!

See this link...it may help: Can a 4HDD be put in place of a 6HDD in a 96 VS

Thanks! Had a word with the transmission joint we deal with at work and they pretty much said the same thing today.
