VR Dash Upgrade....

Hello all,

I have a VR 6cyl auto, and I need to either fix or replace the fuel and water temp gauges. I have resoldered the 3 pin voltage regulator, and now instead of the gauges not moving at all, the fuel gauge only moves when I bash on the dash, while the temp gauge takes ages to move, if at all.

1) The dash is the normal boring one without the tacho. If I get a tacho dash, can I swap the speedo over to the new dash so I keep my original K's?

2) Is the difference between Level 2 and Level 3 dashes the digital odometer? I'm guessing I can only swap the speedo in a Level 2 dash?

3) Is a tacho dash an easy swap? is there any other modifications that need to be done? Do I need to run a tacho wire to the new dash?

I apologise if these questions have already been answered. If you could point me to the relevant threads, it would be much appreciated.

Have a read through this thread for info about level 3 (digital dash) conversions. You may have damaged your dash when you soldered the voltage regulator or it could be a different problem.


If you get a Level 3 Cluster you can get the Ks programmed to exactly match yours (if you're picky) or just find one with around the same or less kms on it.

other than that the level 2 cluster is a stright swap, just plug it in.

Yes you can swap the speedo over.

Yes easy fit to replace L1 cluster.

Thanks, folks! I think I'll go for a Level 2, and swap my speedo over.
