I just got a letter from EPA saying they think my exhaust is to loud and I have to get it tested at a cost of $38. Has anyone heard of this. I dont think its to loud and am getting it tested tomroe. I would say its one step up from standant. The engine is louder than the exhaust. This was during peak, may be I pissed someone off. VR commodore

Iv had the car 3 years and had 3 roadworthys and a certificate because it was classed as a write off because of an engine fire, I brought the car back off the insurance and fixed it up with the change all up I broke out even $ 1000 and $ 4000 to fix. Surely some one must have picked up if it was to loud Hell Im 47 and past the age of loud exhaust Im victoria

i think the epa also sets up on the sides of roads at times with noise meters
maybe you have driven passed on of them, if it was in busy traffic they might picked out your vehicle by mistake
instead of a noisier one

If your exhaust passes the test I'd imagine you will not have to pay the $38....unless we live in a police state.

Yep - had it happen to me about 15 years ago. Cost a heap more than $38 at the time for the test

This rule really bites the big one.
With all of this dob in a hoon crap, it opens the flood gates for people to dob in anyone, whether they have a loud car or if they were doing something wrong.
These days it doesn't seem to take much for people to get a chip on their shoulder about another person and this is one easy way that could be used to get back at them.
I think that if someone is going to dob in a car for what ever reason and it is found that the car in question is legal, then the dobber should be the one paying the money for the check.
It would be interesting on getting a lawyers opinion on the legalities of being charged money if you car is found to be within the law.

Guilty as chareged, The verdict is in. A strict test was 95 db, 2 hrs and $400 later 88 db, I dont think there is a problem with 95 db but too many people in jap crap hoon around residential houses and stuff it up for the crusies. The seventys and eights was more fun when things werent so strict but your generation does have the internet. Remember if you annoy others with your car then they complain then the officials step in and stuff it for all. So do it in industrial or outa town. There is a blitz at the moment, I got caught at latrobe tarrace Geelong in peak traffic, I was taking my kid to skool no hurry. Anything that sounds custom has a good chance of receiving a letter so take it easy

The thing is, any commodore that has a non standard exhaust will be over the limit....90 DB is the limit and if i recall correctly a V6 is 88 DB from the factory. A 5 litre with a 2.5" exhaust and no rear muffler would be nudging 100 DB if not over.

I had a 2 1/2" Basic, I wouldnt say it was a sports set up, But its a 5 speed manual. Dont no the brand. It was on it when I got it 3 1/2 yrs ago. What annoys me is the cost for such a trival thing, Also the waste of a good exhaust. And also to all you people who agree with the epa nazies, You are to easyly brain washed and you proberly take your own bag to the supermarket, Think about it an stop being lead astray by the raicals. lol
