Default Indicators - Automatic turn off after turning a corner?

Recently the ute has stopped automatically turning my indicators off after I turn the corner. I heard what sounded like a plastic 'snap' somewhere inside the steeringwheel housing near the end of the indicator arm. Ever since, when the steering wheel swings back the opposite way as I turn the corner, nothing happens.

It's nothing major but it is really really annoying having to turn it off after every corner. Any help would be great

REplace the indicator arm. There is a little plastic stick which sits out into the steering wheel cavity, when you push up or down on the indicator stalk, it sticks out. The steering wheel spins around and there is a onther stick on it which knocks the indicator stick and then cancels the indication... long story short, just get a new indicator stalk.

my indicator arm is dodgy as well. i think the plastic is warped as on warm or hot days the indicator wont self cancel however on colder days it does. its damn annoying!

Clipped on to the underside of the steering wheel is a plastic cage thingy, it has a part that sticks out, and as the wheel rotates it clips the little tabs on the bottom of the indicator stalk to cancel the indicator.
So the the indicator stalk could be faulty, (remove it by squeezing the tabs and pulling it away from the column.
On my VS, replacing the indicator stalk did not fix it, it was the part that sticks out of the cage that was broken off. It cost around $20 for the part, I still haven't fitted as yet.

You need to remove the steering column shroud. Underneath the shroud you will find that it is held together by a number of phillips head screws. Remove screws. Remove shroud. Unclip the indicator armature. If you have cruise control you will also need to unclip a short loom. Remove armature. Replace with new amrmature. Replace shroud and screw back together.

Often it is actually the horn ring that causes this (especially on hot days when the plastic heats and softens) as there is a plastic tab connected to this which contacts with the button in the indicator arm. Once the corners on this tab wear a little and especially on a hot day it will ofter make a ticking sound when it would normally cancel as the two contact but slip past each other as the horn ring tab flexes. The steering wheel needs to be removed to replace the horn ring.

    Hi Gents,

I've had a look around and there appear to be 2 or 3 sets of things can go wrong with this self cancel.

In short, my VS indicators have always worked, just stopped self-cancelling. I replaced the stalk thinking that would be the fix, but apparently not.

I've read of some plastic things sticking out from the stalk (I didn't see them)
Some form of plastic cage underneath the steering wheel
Some form of springs sat in the steering wheel
and finally, actually something to do with the horn ring.

I have a piece of plastic about an inch long with a curve in it, which does seem to have two lugs protruding from it. But both lugs are within about a cm of each other and come off at 90deg. to the ..... inside (I think) of the curve so I can't see how that would/could be involved.

So can I ask someone to post up please either a diagram of where these springs go and/or a picture of this plastic cage thingy spoken of and/or a pic of what these little bits sticking out look like.

Basically a tech diagram which shows how these things fit together would be good please.

    Many thanks in advance.

Sorry, dunno how to post pictures but my description of a plastic cage thingy and someone else's descrition of a horn ring seem to be of the same thing.
Its a plastic thing that clips on the underside of the steering wheel, has a brass horn contact ring, and the plastic tang that cancels the indicators and a couple of wires.
I have the box in front of me, part number VS20593 CAM/CANC ST/WHL
Cost me about $20 last year from Holden(still haven't fitted as yet)
