Hi All,
After a bit of advice. My transmission went on me the other day, and i am told by the transmission shop that it is around 3K for repair. I can't afford the repair immediately, so am going to lay the car up for a few months while i work out what to do.
I am told that the standard auto boxes are fairly prone to failure, even with the stronger internals, so not sure if i want to throw 3K at it, only to know there is a chance of it blowing again.
I am wanting a few opinions on what i should do. I was thinking manual conversion, but am told that the 5 speed V8 gearbox for the VS wont hold up to the power that my car is putting out. Are there any other stronger options? Car is putting out about 410hp at the flywheel.
Cheers
Paul
T56 Road Race box from Mal Wood automotive, it will put up with the HP, but it will lighten your wallet considerably.

for a manual conversion i'd recommend a T56 6speed box with some 3.9's or 4.11's gears in the diff.
the standard 4l60e is some what prone to failure (i'm led to believe it has something to do with the huge gear ratio difference between 1st and 2nd in the auto). you could upgrade to the 4l65e or even a 4l80e as these are stronger versions, however $$$ are always a issue

If the auto is built properly using performance parts, and a good transmission cooler is used, it will easily handle that power and should last for a fair while .A standard manual box wont last long though behind that sort of power.Especially if it gets driven hard.
a built T700r4 or electronic 4l60e is as strong as a built T350 most people go wrong on the auto settings in the ecu or dont touch them at all causes them to fail more than any other cause .more torque at less throttle but the tunes still setup for less torque so shifts slack at lower pressure and slips for longer all leads to dead boxes if you seen what my T700 has been through they are strong as hell

If you want to keep it auto, do a Turbo 400 conversion. A well built 400 will handle anything you can throw at it, you loose overdrive but will never blow it up. (this can be done for between $2500-3000)
If you want to convert to manual, a TKO-600 will do the job nicely.

T400 is good but the lack of overdrive soon pisses you off just ask plymouth_hemi_69

this is the answer to the overdrive issue with a T350 or T400 trans Gear Vendors under/overdrive transmissions the most awarded auxiliary transmissions.
