quick question guys i've put a vp motor in a vr and now when i start it up it runs like crap until the engine light come on then it runs a bit better the car is running every thing out of the vr so im a bit lost i tort both the motors were the same .
just can't seem to work out why its running rough any help would be great thanks guys and gals
are you running the vp computer or vr?
is all the plugs pluged in - cam sensor and one at the back of the inlet manifold?
vrs run a cam angle sensor.
the vp engines dont, so if u are running a vr loom and vr ecu it will play up as there will be no cam angle sensor.
u cant use a vp loom because vr's have electronic controlled gearbox which is all in the engine loom on VR.
im not sure if plugging in the vp computer will work on not worth a try though
i have a seen some early ones without a cam angle sensor so maybe find an early model vr loom and ecu.
or change the front plate over and gear
yeah if its vr auto the vp doesnt have the cam position sensor and the vr tune is a fair bit different than a vp tune

i don't know much about cars(partly why i joined this forum& becuase i have a holden) but i would say these guys are right in it being something to do with the onboard computer?
so where about is the cam position sensor located and would i be able to take it off a vr motor and put it on the vp motor
you have to swa[ the whole front timing cover off the vr onto the Vp engine to get the cam sensor working and the magnet on the timing chain sprocket.the sensor is down on the drivers side slightly below the waterpump in the front alloy cover
