Default MAIN belt that drives everything in my vr?????

ok so i have no idea what this belt thing is called... but i have replaced my old one with a new belt as one of the ribs on it had broken off

my car is making like a clunkin noise but i cant fig wat it is... thought it was the water pump but i replaced that and its still making a noise.

... i was under the bonnet today trying to find the noise n i seems like my belt must b jumpin coz its starting to rip of like the last belt...

its not like its slipping coz the tention is lose i wonder if wat eva is making the noise is making it happen???? but i have no idea

does anyone have a idea on whats happening?

Sounds like it is the harmonic balancer. The big pulley at the bottom of the engine. Take the belt off again and give it a wobble, if it moves it is stuffed.

Had a similar issue when I replaced a belt... Make sure the belt is 100% straight amongst all the pulleys. May help you but don't count on it. I only had a very slight ticking/thumping nose, but I readjusted it and it's fine now.

If you need to inch the belt over a tad, use a flat head screw driver and lever it in the direction you want to go.

i had the same psoblem... the part that ripped off get caught in the air compressor pump.. so i pulled that out and changed the harmonic balancer and it works fine now

The pulleys are fairly cheap (about 30 bucks if I remember rightly). When I replaced my idler pulleys I lost a lot of my annoying engine noises

If you have the metal type pulleys, instead of buying complete new pulleys, just replace the bearings in the idler and tensioner pulleys. The bearings are about $8 each..The plastic type pulleys are throw away once the bearing gets noisy..I replaced the bearings in these 3 pulleys a couple of weeks ago, heaps quieter now,you can hardly even hear the engine at idle.
