Hey guys, Havent had much to do with a manual before but now ive bought a 5 Speed S2 vs and the box needs some TLC
The Gearstick is quite sloppy when its in gear it flops around. Now ive been told this could be a piece of rubber but im not too sure which one .
Also is there ment to be a trans dipstick in the engine bay like on a auto as i swear i couldnt see one the other night when i had a look.
What needs to be done when servicing the gearbox as i havent found a write up yet explaning much on the manuals at all.

Yeah ive read about it and id love a rip shifter but surley a normal getrag cant be this sloppy lol do you have to drill out the rivets to change the shifter?

Yer the rubbers go on them, i havnt changed mine yet but im sure there is 2 nuts you undo from under neath thats al i did in a vt

Dont drill the rivets. Just remove the plastic plate around the shifter and then the black rubber seal between the shifter and the gold coloured plate. The shifter connects to the gearbox with two nuts the are removed from under the car. There is also two rods underneath that connect to the shifter that you'll need to disconnect.
There is no trans oil dipstick on a manual box, just a drain bolt on the bottom and a filler plug in the middle on the drivers side of the box.
well i replaced everything i could in the shifter and its still shit lol. If anyone has a photo of the exact rubber that wears out that would be fantastic![]()

i am also interested in this particular answer as my getrags shifter is shithouse 2, although everyone u hear of owning one comments on the sloppy feel.
Billet short shifter does fix this problem.
Yeah but its an expensiv fix at $450 pity there iznt just a cheap way to make it better than it is lol

sorry to dig up an old thread.. i was going to create a new post but no point when there has been numerous posts in the pasts.
my question is... Has anyone replaced the shifter with a standard shifter from holden?? if so did this fix the problem(sloppy shifter) and how long has it lasted?

75-85w gear oil. i do my gearbox and diff oils when i do engine oil around every 4 months. thats just me though
so how do i fix this problem its driving me crazy!!!
sorry to vear off topic here but how exactly can i check if my ute has the getrag gbox. Its a vs s3 Spac ute? any help would be much appreciated,
