Hi was driving my 95 vs acclaim today, started the car and went to change the trans into drive when i did that, it sounded like the gears were grinding.
On the way home i had no radio or wipers or indicators.
When i got home and went to put the car into park i got the same noise but it did not stop until i turned off the car.
Went back out to the car 5 min later started the car and drove it.
I did not have any probs.
Just wondering if anyone can give my any help as to what happened.
thanks
It could be the ignition key is turning the start position when hitting bumps etc, and making the starter engage the flywheel/drive plate.Does the ignition key spring back from the start position to the on position properly when its turned?Sometimes the spring that holds the key back from turning to the start position can become weak or broken which lets the key turn to the start position very easily.
yeah that all ok. the sound happened when i was changing gears eg p to d and d to p
If it only does it when engaging the gears it could be the tailshaft universal joints.Get under the car and see if theres any movement in them. They can cause a grinding noise when they get worn out, mostly it can be heard when the car is moving slowly though. If the uni's are ok,its probably coming from inside the transmission itself. Also hows the diff oil level?
i checked all that and it seems fine think it is the auto itself, just wondering what could be wrong with it
