Default Will a car run without transmission fluid?

Hey I replaced my transmission filter today but didn't have any extra fluid to fill it up. I tried to start it to drive it into my garage, but it didn't go anywhere. It started fine but when I put it in Drive it did nothing.

Hopefully I didn't fk anything up.

you should always use new oil after you change the filter. other wise it would be a useless exercise

next time u do this, never start it without transmission fluid, the pump will operate the twin internal gears and u have a chance of scoring the gears and the cradle that the gears and fins sit in, just be careful

Yep. Trans won't shift into gears without fluid. Not a good idea to be running it at all without fluid in there. (would you run your engine with out oil? I hope not)

push it into the garage then go buy some dexron 3.

So I finally got around to buying some transmission fluid (shutup I'm painting my car). One issue - where the heck is the transmission filler location? I suppose I don't just pour it down the dipstick thing eh?

I even bought a Gregorys manual. Couldn't find any info about the location of where to fill it, probably because it's very obvious

a manual box will operate without fluid, not for very long as the oil keeps things moving properly but an auto box required the fluid to function so without it it wont change gears.

When filling don't over fill because it will increase the pressure on you bands and can cause excessive wear on the bands. Little bit at a time and measuring it is the best way.
