I had an ignition barrel replaced for $129 in 2006, including labour. I have it recorded as $54 + $75 so I guess the part cost $54. There is no mention of the housing.

housing is around $150, if you are having problems with the steering lock try a search on this forum you might be able to do it your self, coding the new barrell is relitivey easy, i do them at work.

Coding is the number assigned to each 'bit' of the barrel assembly. The number on each represents the position of the slot in the 'bit'. When the key is inserted the highs and lows on the key blade match the position in the slots so all the 'bits' neither protrude nor recede in the barrel. This allows the barrel to rotate in the housing with the key when its rotated. When you pull apart the old barrel, all you need do is record the number on each 'bit' and its correct position in the barrel. From memory there are 10, 5 on each side. The new uncoded lock comes with a bag of assorted 'bits' allowing the lock to be coded for any combination.

I think I paid around $60-70 for an uncoded barrel (no housing). This is all thats required to fix the busted shaft that operates the ignition switch.

Holden want $600 to supply and fit the barrel and just do that. What a joke,no way Id pay that.Go and get the parts yourself and fix it yourself, and save a heap of cash in the process.

each dealer have there own pricing (dont blame HOLDEN) blame the dealer (please dont mention names for leagel reasions possibly) i know where i work i can get prices on things done at half the price as thoes at city dealers.

to suppily and fit plus code a barrell should only cost x for parts and 1hr labour max than if the housing is stuffed thats extra but 600 bucks is too much

I need to change the barrell, key reader and ignition switch on mine. Adds up to about $130 (ish) in parts at retail and I think it's usually about an hours labour.

Why are you changing the barrell? We usually only do the housing if the barrell is jammed and it's almost impossible to remove it from the housing. If the end of the barrell just broke off in the ignition switch then it should be a reasonably straightforward job.

You could always try a mobile locksmith for a quote.
