Unhappy VR Motor into a VS series II Vehicle

Hi to all, this seems to be the best site to get advice on anything commodore so hopefully someone will know if I can replace my blown VS motor with a VR 1993 motor? sounds strange but the VR motor I can get has only got 90,000kms on it and is $200 (mate with a wreck). and should I replace the gearbox as well?

Or would I be better off forking out $800 to the local wreckers for a used VS motor in unknown condition?

Also is it legal in QLD to put and older motor in a newer model car?

    Any advice would be appreciated

as far as i know for nsw, it is not allowed to put an older engine in a newer car.

you would kick your self in the end because the value of the car will be nothing, and would not be any good

I know you can't legally put an older motor in a newer car i.e. throwing a vr motor into a vs, but is it possible to put the vr bottom end into a vs? I've got no idea, as i don't know much about these, but if you could do that, that would be fine. You'd still be running the anti-pollution gear of its era

    Cheers

I don't even know if a vr block is identical to a vs one and if they heads and running gear are the same/bolt on?

I am pretty sure the Buick block will not mate up to the Ecotech heads. also the entire engine management systemis different so you would have to change that, wiring loom, ECU etc the BCM wil probably not want to talk to the older ECU then and it wil become a difficult exersise. I would have thought you can get a good VS motor for less than $500

nope cant put VS heads on a VR block , they are 2 completely different engines and you cant run a older motor in a newer car also as already said if you did do this your car would be worthless.

    Buy another ecotec motor.

Thanks for the info from all it was much appreciated. I only paid $350 for the whole car so I'll spend the money on a VS motor and stop being cheap...lol
